The Teaser That’s Melting Faces and Expectations

Clayface Official Teaser Trailer poster showing the disfigured face transformation

DC Studios just dropped the official teaser for Clayface, and it is not what anyone expected from the superhero genre. This is pure body horror wrapped in Gotham City shadows, and it marks the studio’s bold first step into straight-up horror territory.

The teaser introduces Matt Hagen, an ambitious actor played by Tom Rhys Harries, whose promising career takes a brutal turn after a gangster disfigures his face. Desperate for a fix, he turns to scientist Dr. Caitlin Bates (Naomi Ackie). What begins as a medical miracle quickly spirals into something far more grotesque and terrifying as his body transforms into living clay.

A Fresh Take on a Classic Villain

Director James Watkins brings a chilling vision to the screen from a screenplay by horror heavyweight Mike Flanagan. The footage wastes no time leaning into visceral body horror: bandaged wounds, rapid facial distortion, and a man literally reshaping himself in ways that feel both tragic and monstrous.

This is not a capes-and-punches story. It is an origin tale grounded in psychological dread and physical transformation, set against the gritty backdrop of Gotham. Early reactions from CinemaCon describe the footage as one of the darkest entries DC has ever attempted, and the teaser confirms that tone.
