The Schwartz Awakens: Mel Brooks Reveals Spaceballs: The New One

The galaxy far, far away just got a whole lot funnier. Nearly four decades after the 1987 cult classic Spaceballs hit theaters, Mel Brooks has officially confirmed its sequel with a title reveal that only he could pull off. No speculation, no fan theories. Just straight facts from the man himself at CinemaCon 2026.

The Title Drop That Changed Everything

In a pre-taped video played during Amazon MGM Studios' presentation, Brooks stepped in with the announcement fans had waited years to hear. "Just like the old one. But newer." The official title is Spaceballs: The New One, arriving exclusively in theaters on April 23, 2027.

The moment instantly lit up the room and screens worldwide, proving the original's spirit remains intact.

Original Stars Return With New Talent On Board

The core cast is reuniting for maximum absurdity. Rick Moranis is back as Lord Dark Helmet, Bill Pullman returns as Lone Starr, Daphne Zuniga reprises Princess Vespa, George Wyner is Colonel Sandurz again, and Mel Brooks himself plays both Yogurt and President Skroob. Joining them are Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Anthony Carrigan.

Director Josh Greenbaum (Will & Harper) is at the helm, with the screenplay from Josh Gad, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit. Plot specifics are still under wraps, as confirmed across all official reports.

Teaser Footage Ignites the Hype

The CinemaCon panel went galactic when Moranis, Zuniga, and the Pullmans joined to screen the first teaser footage. Early descriptions note it spoofs everything from Star Wars to Avatar with the exact over-the-top energy that made the original legendary.
