Nintendo just dropped a major surprise that has the gaming community buzzing. In a shadow-dropped Star Fox Direct on May 6, 2026, the company revealed a full remake of the beloved classic, simply titled Star Fox, launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026.

A Cinematic Reimagining of a Legend

This new entry is a ground-up remake of Star Fox 64, the iconic 1997 N64 rail-shooter that defined the series for millions of fans. Expect the same thrilling level layouts and high-speed aerial combat, but with a complete visual overhaul that leverages the power of Switch 2. New fully voiced dialogue, detailed cutscenes, an epic orchestral soundtrack, and refreshed character designs bring Fox McCloud and his team to life like never before.

The game promises modern enhancements including mouse controls support, new multiplayer modes like 4-vs-4 battles, and additional challenges for both newcomers and veterans. It's positioned as an accessible entry point for players who missed the original while delivering fresh content for longtime fans.

Why This Release Matters

Following Star Fox Zero in 2016, the series has been quiet. This timely remake arrives hot on the heels of Fox McCloud's appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, reigniting interest in the Lylat System. At a digital price of $49.99 (physical around $59.99), it's set to be one of the more accessible big releases for the new hardware.
