House of the Dragon Season 3 Finale Lands Tonight

House of the Dragon Season 3 Finale Lands Tonight: What to Know About Episode 8

The Dance of the Dragons reaches a critical turning point this evening. House of the Dragon Season 3 wraps its eight-episode run with the season finale airing Sunday, August 9, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and streaming simultaneously on Max.

Eight Episodes of Escalating Fire and Blood

Season 3 premiered June 21 and delivered weekly installments every Sunday. The full schedule ran through Episode 7 on August 2, titled “The Dragon in Winter.” Episode 8, the finale, closes the chapter tonight. Like Season 2, the season contains exactly eight episodes rather than the ten of the first season.

Key returning players include Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Tom Glynn-Carney as Aegon II, Ewan Mitchell as Aemond, and Phia Saban as Helaena Targaryen. The season has advanced major events from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, including large-scale battles and shifting alliances in the Targaryen civil war.

Looking Ahead to the Final Season

HBO has already ordered Season 4, which showrunner Ryan Condal has described as the series’ concluding chapter. Production timelines point to a 2028 premiere, consistent with the roughly two-year gaps between previous seasons. Scripts for the final season were reported well underway during Season 3’s run.
