Hayden Panettiere Dies at 36: What We Know About the ‘Heroes’ and ‘Nashville’ Star

The entertainment world is mourning the sudden loss of Hayden Panettiere. The actress, best known for her roles as Claire Bennet on Heroes and Juliette Barnes on Nashville, died on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Greenville, South Carolina. She was 36.

Her father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed the news in a statement shared through her publicist. “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” he said. The family has asked for privacy.

What Happened in Greenville

According to the Greenville Police Department, officers and emergency personnel responded around 1:51 p.m. on Sunday to a report of an unresponsive woman at an apartment complex in the Judson Mill district. An acquaintance of Panettiere’s placed the 911 call. Medical assistance was administered, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office reported that first responders found her in cardiac arrest and initiated advanced life support measures, which were unsuccessful. An autopsy was completed, and officials stated there were no signs of trauma that contributed to the death. A preliminary investigation found no indication of foul play or suspicious circumstances. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and additional studies.
